This was not a lesson in what came first, the chicken or the egg?
No, this chicken wanted to make sure MP Jim Fitzpatrick spreads the word about sandwiches with ‘fairer’ fillings. And it seems the MP made himself a feathered friend after promising to support the RSPCA’s ‘Fairer Fillings campaign’ by calling on people to consider animal welfare when buying or making their lunch.
The campaign is urging people to swap their usual lunch with at least one lunch during the week that contains higher welfare ingredients.
Whilst visiting the RSPCA’s fairer sandwich stall for lunch the Poplar and Limehouse MP, who used to be the government’s food and farming minister, said:
“We are all concerned about higher animal welfare standards, but when grabbing a convenient sandwich for lunch animal welfare is often the last thing people think about.”
