Brighton & Hove Albion ace backs new team mates to challenge after beating Notts County 3-1 on Saturday
Leyton Orient’s newest recruit Adam Chicksen believes the east Londoners have what it takes to go all the way and earn promotion from League Two this season.
The 24-year-old joined the O’s on an initial one-month loan from Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday and he was put straight into the starting team before helping his new team mates get back to winning ways.
Orient won 3-1 against Notts County with Sammy Moore scoring twice and Jay Simpson also on target for Ian Hendon’s side at Brisbane Road on Saturday.
Chicksen admitted Moore’s stunning second took a lot of pressure off the back four and also insisted the O’s can finish in the top three this year.
He said: “Of course I think we can go all the way this season, I wouldn’t have signed if I didn’t think that. Orient have got a lot of quality players so I wouldn’t have here come unless I thought we could push for promotion.
“I saw Sammy get it out of his feet and thought surely you are not going to hit it from there and then he has unleashed one into the top corner, that really took so much pressure off the back four getting that third goal.”
It gave Orient a welcome two-goal cushion going into the final six minutes of the match at Brisbane Road and Hendon’s men easily claimed the points.
That moves them back up to third after a difficult month of September and the arrival of Chicksen is another boost for the O’s.
He has been at Brisbane Road before, playing three times during a loan spell back in January 2012 from MK Dons. The defender has since moved on to Brighton, but his lack of game time has resulted in a switch to east London again.
On his debut, Chicksen added: “It wasn’t bad at all, I thought we started well in the first half and went about how we wanted to start, got in and about Notts County.
“We got the early goal, which set us up for the rest of the 45. Second half they have obviously tried to change something, which always happens in games, and they got back into it.
“But our reaction showed our character. Notts County are a good team with a strong squad so to get that result is great.”
He continued: “You have got to show a reaction after conceding and I thought we changed something, we started getting in their faces and about them more and ended up getting the second goal before the third killed them off.”
It was a good day at the office for Orient and Chicksen as he slotted into the back four with no trouble at all.
