A NINE-year-old girl has died after plummeting 15 floors from a tower block flat.
The girl fell from Sandall House in Daling Way, Bow on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called at 2.40pm by a member of the public who reported seeing a child injured on the pavement outside.
Air ambulance and ambulance crews were called to the scene. The girl was treated and taken to an east London hospital by helicopter.
She was pronounced dead at approximately 3.30pm
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “I heard her mum screaming and looked out of the window, then saw her body lying on the ground. It was awful - the worst thing I have ever seen.
“I can’t get to sleep; every time I close my eyes I see her again and think it could’ve been one of my girls. She was the same age as my eldest daughter.”
The 34-year-old, who has two children aged eight and four and a new baby, said she had been unable to sleep or stay in her flat since the incident because both her and her children were terrified.
She added that she had been desperate to move from the block to somewhere she feels is safer for her children but had been on the housing waiting list for nine years.
Tower Hamlets CID are investigating the circumstances of the incident with the assistance of the Major Investigations Team.
A police spokeswoman said that the death is being treated as unexplained at this time.
She added that officers were not able to say whether the girl had fallen from a window or another opening but said she had fallen from inside a flat.
Officers are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination and an inquest is due to open shortly.
The fall came just over a week after a teenage girl fell from another Bow tower block.
The 17-year-old was taken to the Royal London Hospital with head injuries after she fell from Grafton House in Wellington Way on September 3.
