CHILDREN have the chance to get hooked on fishing at a free event at Victoria Park on Wednesday.
The youngsters will be talked through every step of the process of landing their first catch, from choosing bait to reeling in all sorts of fish, including roach, tench and rudd.
The event is hosted by green charity Thames 21 and the Environment Agency and will run from 10am until 3pm. Fishing tackle, bait and licences will be provided on the day and there is no need to book in advance.
Youngsters should meet at the Bathing Pond off Guinness Close.
Thames 21's angling expert Grant Fear said: "The old Bathing Lake at Victoria Park, was restored and restocked by Victoria Parks Anglers Alliance some five years ago, since then the pond has been enjoyed by all the local community and offers great fishing for all.
