Children’s refugee centre gets 30k boost from Lloyds TSB Foundation

A charity helping child refugees and asylum seekers traumatised by violence has landed a windfall from the Lloyds TSB Foundation in the City to keep it going.

The Baobab Centre for Young Survivors in Exile has been given a 30,000 grant over three years towards staff salaries.

The centre offers one-to-one and group psychotherapy to youngsters who have witnessed or experienced extreme violence, trafficking or rape.

“Many have fled violence, having experienced unimaginably painful events,” said the centre’s fundraiser Jill Pack. “The grant will allow us to continue to provide our services to those most in need.”

The charity works with many unaccompanied minors. There were 1,500 children and young people arriving unaccompanied seeking asylum in 2010.
