They don’t communicate which you might recognise in your own life, according to a theatre dance piece being performed by Nicholas Minns and Mark Boldin at Bethnal Green’s Rich Mix arts centre.

The one-off London show ‘They Live Next Door’ created by Lithuanian choreographer Ieva Kuniskis is an emotional roller-coaster.

“I am interested in social psychology and what makes us who we are,” Ieva explains. “Stereotypes and ‘social labelling’ affect our identity and relationships.

“The two characters are stuck and don’t communicate, yet depend on each other and simply can’t bring themselves to break away—we might recognise aspects of our own lives.”

The audience is sucked into the world of other people’s lives, yet most of us really don’t know our neighbours apart from the odd ‘hello’, Ieva points out.

Her choreography draws on contemporary and folk dance with narrated snapshots and a soundtrack by Dougie Evans creating nostalgic melodies, in this Spin Arts production.
