Chris Brayford hoping to show everyone how good Leyton Orient Women’s team are at Brisbane Road on Sunday

Leyton Orient Women’s team manager Chris Brayford is excited about the prospect of playing at Brisbane Road again on Sunday and hopeful it will benefit the O’s chances of beating MK Dons in the FA Women’s Premier League South East Division One.

Although Justin Edinburgh’s side ended their home campaign on Tuesday, there is still one final competitive fixture due to take place in E10.

Orient’s ladies will host title-challenging MK Dons for a 12pm kick-off with tickets priced at £3 for adults, but free entry is available for under-18s and O’s season-ticket holders.

Looking ahead to the fixture, Brayford said: “It is massive for us to play at Brisbane Road. It is a beautiful stadium and it should be a really good day.

“Every time we have played there it has been a fantastic occasion and it is just a great chance for us to have more people see us play.

“We try to play good football and pass it about and try to play to a high standard, so everyone is excited.

“When we played the FA Cup game against Billericay Town at Brisbane Road earlier this season it was brilliant for the girls to have people chanting songs, it gave them a big lift, so we are hoping Sunday will be similar.

“Playing at the stadium with its big pitch seems to suit our passing game as well, so fingers crossed it will help us against MK Dons.”

Orient women’s captain Danielle Griffiths echoed the views of boss Brayford and also highlighted their fine scoring record in E10.

The Brisbane Road ladies thrashed Billericay 7-0 back on October 8 and also scored three times against Actonians in another encounter at O’s home, but this time lost out in a seven-goal thriller.

Nonetheless, they have scored goals aplenty in E10 whenever they’ve played there this season and will aim to do the same again on Sunday.

Griffiths added: “It is always special playing at Brisbane Road, the home of Orient. It is a stadium where we have had some great results and the pitch really suits us so that always helps.

“We are all excited to go out on Sunday and show what we can do within a fantastic football arena.”

The O’s are used to playing in front of less than a hundred fans at their usual Mile End stadium home, but will hope to see plenty more supporters backing them this weekend at Brisbane Road.

After promotion last season, Orient have adjusted to life in the Premier League South East Division impressively.

Yet boss Brayford conceded there is a tinge of disappointment about their position in the table.

O’s are third with 37 points from 19 games – four behind second-placed Ipswich Town having played the same number of matches as the Suffolk club.

Meanwhile, the title is out of reach for Orient with AFC Wimbledon top on 48 points from their 20 fixtures.

“It has been a really good season. I’m definitely pleased with what we have achieved,” said Brayford.

“Whenever a team goes up they are expected to struggle, so it is nice to have turned that on its head.

“In some ways we are a little bit disappointed we haven’t been able to challenge more for the title, but overall we are really happy.”

The east Londoners showed their potential for next season with a 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon on April 15.

A brace from Lisa Fulgence helped down the Dons and Orient will now look to get the better of fourth in the table MK on Sunday and show everyone at Brisbane Road why they could be champions in 2019.

Brayford concluded: “We played the leaders AFC Wimbledon last time and put in a really good performance and it was a thoroughly deserved win.

“It has definitely given us a boost going into next season where we want to challenge for the title.”
