The Whites manager is the second-favourite to take over at Brisbane Road, but is focused on taking on Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow

Chris Kinnear has insisted he is only worrying about managing Dover Athletic amid speculation regarding the vacant Leyton Orient job.

The O’s sacked Steve Davis as head coach last Tuesday after a run of 11 National League games without a win.

Kinnear was immediately installed as the second favourite and was at Brisbane Road on Saturday taking charge of Dover.

He saw his team draw 1-1 in what was his 600th league match in charge of the Kent club and when quizzed about the Orient job after, he insisted he is only focused on preparing to win at Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow (Tuesday).

Kinnear said: “I don’t know anything about that and it’s not for me to say. They’ll make their choice on who they want.

“I have just got to worry about being manager of Dover and trying to win games, but I’m not the only one to say that. Every manager in football says that, so what do you expect me to say.”

The experienced manager admitted he was happy to leave east London still top of the National League after a tough match with O’s.

Orient had lost their previous five league games at home, but responded well to Nortei Nortey’s 23rd-minute opener with Craig Clay equalising 12 minutes from time.

Interim head coach Ross Embleton impressed during his first match as a manager and showed his adaptability with a crucial formation change after bringing on Matt Harrold.

Dover boss Kinnear added: “We knew it would be difficult because they had a change in the management side of things and I’d seen them in their last two games and we thought we’d know how they would go.

“But they made the change and you have the same coaches here, but they have a little bit more invigoration and that’s the way it goes.

“They worked hard and the crowd really got behind them, but I’m disappointed with the way we played because we should’ve been two or three up at the beginning.

“Leyton Orient kept going though with a lot of spirit, but even when we don’t play well, our lads dig in and it wasn’t our day, yet we’ve got a point and it keeps us top, so in the cold light of day to be top at this stage of the season is absolutely amazing for our club.”
