A city farm in the East End has put safety measures in place in response to a recent outbreak of E. coli at another farm.

Chief Executive Officer at Mudchute Park and Farm, Andrew Johnston, said: "We would like to assure all our visitors that immediately following the announcement of an E. coli outbreak at a children's farm in Surrey, we put in place all recommended safety measures such as displaying notices informing the public of good practices.

"Theses include hand washing, using wet wipes, eating food only in designated areas and the close supervision of children."

The sale of animal food at the farm on the Isle of Dogs has also been withdrawn, and supervised animal handling and hand washing takes place at weekends.

Staff members wearing Mudchute jackets or shirts are also on hand daily to give advice and answer any queries.
