CONVOYS of two-wheelers took to the streets to help novice cyclists get to grips with commuting into the City.
It was the first of a series of Cycle Friday’ convoys planned by City Hall heading into Central London from five directions where novice riders are accompanied by experienced bikers.
The East London convoy headed off from Mile End and along the Regent’s Canal through Stepney and Cable Street to Tower Hill and on to St Paul’s.

But the turn-out wasn’t quite what planners were hoping for to join the guided cycle ride, when only a dozen turned up at Mile End.
The Friday cycles’ were the idea of Mayor Boris Johnson after a one-off trial run during the Underground rail-workers’ strike in June.
He’s planning to run them every Friday through the summer starting at 8am simultaneously from Mile End Park, Greenwich Cutty Sark, Finsbury Park, Swiss Cottage, Ravenscourt Park and Brixton.
