Right-back discusses is time with the U’s and how it is important Orient keep progressing in pre-season

Sean Clohessy doesn’t care if Colchester United supporters boo him tomorrow (Saturday); he just wants Leyton Orient to continue taking positive strides towards a successful campaign..

The 28-year-old spent last season with the U’s and was a regular before having a fall-out with United boss Tony Humes.

He had his contract terminated in May despite having a year remaining, but it has turned out to be the O’s gain.

The right-back, who enjoyed success at Southend United during a three-year spell, is looking forward to the encounter at the Weston Homes Community Stadium and doing well with Orient.

“No it doesn’t bother me if I get booed. People move on in there careers. I had a year with them and I enjoyed it while I was there,” said Clohessy.

“Obviously you have ups and downs, you have fall outs and good times, but this is a new chapter in my career now. I don’t really look back. I am looking forward and I want to do the best I can.

“Colchester have got some strong players, they have a good, young team and young players that could go on and do well in the game.

“It will be a good test for us to see where we are at, we want to get our fitness levels right and we have had a tough pre-season.”

Clohessy spoke about how important it is for Orient to practise patterns of play and how they shape up against Colchester, rather than trying to get a positive result.

O’s latest defensive recruit would love to beat his former side, but feels it is important for Ian Hendon’s team to keep working towards their opening match of the season against Barnet on August 8.

“We are only concentrated on ourselves, it is a friendly at the end of the day not a league game,” said Clohessy.

“The main objective for us is to improve our fitness levels, work hard and make sure we are ready for the start of the season. We are not going to win any trophies by beating Colchester at the weekend.

“Obviously we want to win the game, but right now it is about getting our pattern of play and shape right.

“I think we would much rather do the right things in the match and lose, then sit behind the ball and not get anything out of it and maybe get a 1-0 win – it is not going to help us, we are not going to get any points for it. Saturday is all about getting the things we need to work on right.”
