Leyton Orient defender Sean Clohessy believes the O’s need to start killing League Two teams off when they are on top.

Ian Hendon’s side have only won once since beating Bristol Rovers on August 29, but drawn against the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Cambridge United and Northampton Town during that time.

In those matches against the U’s and the Cobblers, Orient could have easily taken all three points and probably should have.

On Saturday they went ahead at Crawley Town and had chances to score a second, but failed to take them and eventually lost 3-2.

Clohessy believes that needs to change in the upcoming weeks to ensure they don’t suffer more disappointment.

He said: “Once we are one nil up we should have killed the game, we should have taken the chances we created down the other end.

“If you get the second goal you never know what is going to happen, but we never got it and we have been made to pay the price for not taking our chances.”

What also occured at the weekend was Orient conceded a sloppy goal to allow the opposition back into the game.

Clohessy admits that needs to stop, but also hopes their luck turns and goalkeepers don’t continue to have excellent performances against Orient like Northampton’s Adam Smith had recently.

He added: “We had the chances at Northampton, we had the same at Cambridge and we ruined it because we have conceded sloppy goals at the other end.

“Hopefully the luck goes for us later on in the season, they say you get it at some stage.

“We are not at the moment because the Northampton goalkeeper was unbelievable when we played against him the other day so hopefully in the next few weeks we can get a couple of penalties or other things going for us and it turns the other way.”

John Marquis made his debut for the O’s against Crawley too nd made a positive impact, setting up the second for Jay Simpson.

Orient’s vice-captain believes he will prove to be a smart signing for the Brisbane Road outfit.

“John obviously works really hard. He is a target man and he is going to put his head in there,” said Clohessy.

“The balls that come into the box at Crawley he did really well with, fighting away and he will be a good addition to the team.”
