Ian Hendon takes him team to Luton tonight for a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match

Sean Clohessy could lead Leyton Orient out at Luton Town tonight in their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash with club captain Mathieu Baudry a big doubt because of injury and the defender wants them to keep their winning habit.

The 28-year-old has played every minute of the O’s campaign so far, including the Capital One Cup defeat to MK Dons.

As vice-captain he could be called upon to skipper Ian Hendon’s side this evening at Kenilworth Road.

Even though earning promotion from League Two is the priority for the Brisbane Road club, they want to get another positive result this evening.

Clohessy said: “We just want to keep winning, we have the winning mentality now and we are upset we didn’t get the victory at MK Dons in the Capital One Cup.

“We should have beat them, but in hindsight it is maybe good we are out of that competition so we get extra rest. We don’t know what the gaffer is going to be doing at Luton.

“He might rest a couple of the boys, but it doesn’t matter who comes in. If Scott Kashket gets a game he knows what to do, he trains with us everyday and is part of the team. Everybody has that trust in each other.

“It is a squad game. That team that played against Bristol Rovers is not going to play every single match of the season. We are going to have injuries and suspensions and it is about making sure we are fresh and when we need rest we get it.”

Clohessy believes Hendon could make changes this evening with the likes of Kashket, Blair Turgott and Ollie Palmer expected to start.

The O’s defender insists the aforementioned trio will all be ready to take their chance at Luton tonight.

He added: “The gaffer will obviously look to bring players in when he needs too, but I think it is about other boys coming in and being a part of the team.

“Everyone knows their job and Blair, when he has been coming on has done excellent for us. He knows his job and Ollie is the same.

“Eventually they are going to get their chance to start and we know what they are going to do. They aren’t going to be rusty, they’ll come in and do a great job for us.”

After captaining the club in pre-season against his former sides Colchester United and Southend United, Clohessy could skipper Orient in a competitive fixture this evening.

But the defender doesn’t believe it will change his game at all and hopes Baudry is fit to play at Kenilworth Road.

“Getting the armband after Mathieu went off is just part of the course. The gaffer has given me the vice-captains role,” said Clohessy.

“Whether ‘Frenchy’ is on the pitch or if he is off it I will play the same role. If I am captain or if I am not it doesn’t change what I do.

“I still speak the same and still play the same. It is a big miss ‘Frenchy’ not being there so I wouldn’t want him not on the pitch just so I can get the armband.”
