BRITPOP legend Jarvis Cocker is fighting plans for a �6 million cinema and office complex in his back yard in East London’s trendy Hoxton quarter.
His private life will be exposed to prying eyes, he fears.
The 45-year-old former Pulp singer has launched an angry tirade against “the big ugly lump” planned for Pitfield Street.
“I don’t want office workers to see me parading in my pyjamas,” he fumed.
The four-storey redevelopment of a disused Gaumont cinema by the Shoreditch Trust would overlook the maverick star’s home in Haberdasher Street.
GAUNTLET
Cocker, who shot to fame with hits including Disco 2000 and Common People in the 1990s, has thrown the gauntlet down to Town Hall bosses to “come down to Hoxton and hold a proper public consultation.”
Hackney Council is backing the development it says would create jobs and bring cinema back to Hoxton for the first time since the old Gaumont closed in 1956.
The Town Hall sent out letters to 217 households, but says it only got back eight objecting.
Cocker insists the development would tower above people’s homes, invade their privacy and block the sunlight.
