Hammers mdifielder aiming for six points

The returning Jack Collison is fed up of talk that West Ham are too good to go down and has urged his team-mates to go out and prove it.

The midfielder made his first appearance since March 2010 on Saturday as a second half substitute in the Hammers 1-1 draw with Blackburn at Upton Park.

With two matches left, the east Londoners are four points from safety and Collison who has fully recovered from his knee injury, believes it’s about time the team started playing to their potential.

“The boys are working hard, the staff have put the hours in, but it is a matter of going out there now and doing it,” he said.

“Enough talking. We have talked all season about how we are good enough to get out of it but the league table does not lie and we have a cup final next week and the following week. We need two wins and hopefully that is enough.”

Wolves’ victory over West Brom on Sunday has changed that scenario and if the Black Country side Wolves win and Blackburn draw on Saturday, West Ham will be all but down, relying on Birmingham to lose their last two matches.

“It is a massive task, we know that, we are not going to lie. We are where we are,” Collison said.

“We go to Wigan next week and it is a must-win game. We have to take three points. They will be thinking the same. So it is set up to be a cup final. I am looking forward to it.”

After such a long period out of the game, there is no wonder Collison was delighted to be back in claret and blue, regardless of the club’s current plight.

“I had been waiting long enough to get another go at it and what I had been working hard for in the past 14 months. There have been long days and it is great to be out there,” he said.

“It has been very hard and I felt like a fan to be honest. I can see how much hard work it is. At times we played some great stuff and the results don’t go for us but we are where we are.”
