A summer programme of music has given young maestros from the Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES) the chance to show off their skills.

The programme culminated in a concert earlier this month, featuring some of the most gifted young musicians from Tower Hamlets and Hackney.

Among the highlights of the concert, held at the Hackney Empire, was a steel pan group leading the crowd in a rendition of Korean hit ‘Gangnam Style’

THAMES allows more than 13,500 pupils each week in the borough to learn musical instruments or take part in musical activities.

Speaking at the end of the summer programme, cabinet member for children’s services Cllr Oliur Rahman said: “I am really impressed with the amazing talent of these students.

“Ensuring they are able to learn and develop their unique skills is really important and THAMES does an excellent job in supporting this.”
