Contest to get East End blooming lovely

GARDENERS are being encouraged to get London's East End in bloomin' good order.

Tower Hamlets in Bloom competition, part of the nationwide contest to brighten Britain, has a new category this year, Best Newcomer.

Folk are also invited to nominate gardens or hanging baskets which brighten up their day.

Other categories include allotment, basket or planted container display, communal residential garden, community garden, education establishment, front garden, wildlife friendly garden, patio balcony or roof garden, public house, restaurant and small business and best newcomer.

All entries must be visible or accessible to the public, except the wildlife gardens and education categories.

Applications are available from Tower Hamlets council's green space project, closing date June 19.
