Murder police have launched an investigation after the discovery of one body found hanging in a Bethnal Green park led officers to another in a Bow flat.
The body of a man in his early 30s was discovered in Bethnal Green’s Weavers’ Fields in Derbyshire Street on Easter Sunday and investigating officers then found a woman in her late 20s stabbed to death in a home in Brymay Close 36 hours later.
It is believed the man’s body was found by a member of the public and the man was pronounced dead when the police and London Ambulance Service attended around 6.30pm on Sunday.
Next of kin have been informed but police have yet to formally identify the man. A post-mortem was due to be held at Poplar Mortuary yesterday (Wednesday).
The Advertiser understands the investigation into the first death led officers to the address in Brymay Close around 7am yesterday (Tuesday) morning where they found the body of a woman in her with stab wounds.
A post-mortem is due to be held today (Thursday), police await formal identification of the woman and next of kin have not yet been informed.
An incident room has opened at the Homicide and Serious Crime Command under DCI John Sandlin.
A statement from the Met said: “We are provisionally linking the two incidents but enquiries continue and we retain an open mind at this early stage.”
A Met spokesman said he was unable to say whether officers were looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
