POLICE and trading standards officers have seized 30,000 pornographic and fake DVDs from a flat in London's East End.

Green.

Tower Hamlets Council's Trading Standards officers, along with the Bethnal Green South Safer Neighbourhood Team,

They followed "a trail of intelligence" from the national agency which protects the film and broadcasting industry against counterfeiting.

It led to a house in Bethnal Green yesterday (Thursday) where they uncovered a large-scale storage facility (pictured) for dodgy DVDs.

"The scale of this seizure will disrupt the fake DVD trade in East London," said Tower Hamlets councillor Abdal Ullah.

"This is a warning to others. The sale of fake DVDs affects jobs and honest businesses."

Fly-pitchers would gather at the flat to collect DVDs for selling in markets and business premises. No-one was on the premises when the raid was carried out, but investigations continue.

The seizure of the DVDs with an estimated 'street' value of 100,000 means 150 fly-pitchers will be without illegal wares to sell.
