“Winning an England cap still means a lot and Kevin Nolan would love one at this stage of his career.”

When it comes to goalscoring midfielders there aren’t too many playing better than Kevin Nolan at the moment – but I think it’s too early to be talking about England caps.

Nolan, 30, has been in top form this season, Mark Noble has too, but their problem is that there are so many top English midfielders in their way.

Come the end of the season, if Kevin’s still scoring then I think he can expect a call when England tour Brazil in the summer – when I dare say one or two will drop out with injury.

I think winning an England cap still means a lot to players.

I think Nolan, particularly, would love to win one at this stage of his career.

Another of our stars this season has been Winston Reid, who is quickly becoming a very good Premier League player.

I was impressed with him playing at the World Cup for New Zealand in 2010 and he has been an important part of the West Ham squad this season.

We need to hang on to him and I would love to see him sign a long-term deal.

Reid, Nolan and the rest are on a great run, but I still maintain a mid-table finish will represent a really good season for West Ham.

We’ve had a fantastic start and I’m so pleased for everyone at the club.

It was a good, polished away performance at Newcastle last Sunday and we seem to have got that down to a tee.

Our style of play suits playing away. We defend solidly, have pace on the wings to break and the big man up top – Andy Carroll – is great at holding the ball up.

As great as our run is though, it’s important that everyone keeps their feet on the floor.

I’ve been involved in teams in the past who have started well then faded badly towards the end of the season, so it’s no use getting carried away because we’re still in the midst of a difficult run of games.

This was a run of games where we looked at the Stoke fixture coming up on Monday night and thought that might be a must-win, because we wouldn’t get too many points from elsewhere. But we’ve got four points out of six including the Manchester City game and it would be great to build on that against Stoke.

Even if we were to draw, five points from the three games would represent a great return.
