THE Town Hall was awarded two gongs this week for its work in tackling child poverty and helping older people.
Tower Hamlets council has won two Beacon awards which recognise its achievements in improving East Enders' lives.
The borough already has seven Beacon awards but these two new additions mean council bosses will receive a share of �3m government funding.
The council was congratulated for looking beyond older people's health and social care and working to improve their wellbeing, social engagement and independence.
And the awards also reflect the council's work in tackling and preventing child poverty in one of the most deprived areas in the country, by rolling out new children's centres and advising parents on how to access affordable childcare and employment.
Around 62 councils received a Beacon award, which are funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government, including 12 London boroughs.
