COUNCIL tax in Tower Hamlets is being frozen next year.

It means that people living in the East End will see a freeze in their bills in 2010-11along with seven other Labour controlled councils in London.

Deputy leader of Tower Hamlets council Josh Peck said the move was designed to help people out in a time of economic difficulty.

"There are a lot of people in Tower Hamlets who struggle to pay their council tax."

But he pledged the move would not mean cuts to front line services.

Residents in Lambeth, Lewisham, Hackney, Newham, Greenwich, Barking and Dagenham can also expect to avoid a council tax hike next year.
