Little Rifat Mohammed was rushed to hospital with critical injuries—but died on July 5.

His parents, Mohammed Miah, 36, and Rebeka Nazmin, 31, were arrested at their home in St Leonard’s Road, Poplar, and originally charged with causing GBH with intent and with child cruelty at Thames Magistrates court.

But the charges were changed to murder when they appeared at the Old Bailey last Friday.

They are also accused of causing the death of a child and go on trial at the Old Bailey on February 27. The child cruelty charges against Rebeka Nazmin were also withdrawn.
