The parents of a little boy who needed lifesaving treatment just hours after birth are appealing for support for fundraising Pyjama party events next month.

Dave Plane and Lesa Bennett were helped by the Sick Children’s Trust when little Broderick was born.

They stayed at the trust’s Stevenson House hostel just minutes from the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel to be there for their first-born day and night.

Broderick inhaled meconium from his first bowel movement during a traumatic birth, which stopped him breathing. But doctors incubated him for the next 30 days as the tiny tot fought to stay alive.

The couple had their first cuddle when the baby was 17 days old. He’s now a healthy 16-month-old normal, every-day toddler.

Dave raised £2,300 for the trust earlier this year completing the Hackney Half Marathon.

The fundraising ‘pyjama’ events from October 17 to 21 is to sponsor children to go to nursery or playgroup dressed in their favourite pyjamas.
