Those looking to avoid the madness of Notting Hill Carnival can head to Victoria Park this weekend.

The Makemore creative festival, on until Monday, will see independent artists and craftspeople give workshops to promote their crafts and share tips on how to make a business out of creative skills.

Skills which are considered to be vanishing, including weaving, paper marbling and furniture making, are being taught to the public in a bid to keep the practices alive and kicking.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs, said: “Tower Hamlets is renowned for its creative industries and the council wants to promote independent artistry and celebrate the great talent of makers in the borough.

“Sadly, many crafts are becoming defunct. This event will give festival goers of all ages opportunities to try out a range of inventive activities.”

The festival has been running since Thursday on the western tip of Victoria Park. Tickets for Saturday, Sunday and Monday cost £32 for adults, £15 for 11-17-year-olds, and are free for under 10s. It will run from 11am to 10pm across the weekend.
