PUB landlord Frank Henry woke up with a bang when a car crashed into his East End boozer at 5.30am.

Crash! He was in bed above Poplar's Phoenix in East India Dock-road last Saturday when a BMW smashed into the building, leaving a gaping hole in the wall.

He was okay, not even a scratch. But the poor woman driver had back and neck injuries and went to hospital.

Bang! Frank's pub also came off rather badly, with a gaping hole left in the wall. Surveyors say the roof and one wall need replacing.

"I just heard this loud bang and went downstairs and saw what was going on," he recalled.

"Now it's freezing in here, but we're still open for business."

Wallop! Frank's cockney regulars wouldn't miss their pint of 'wallop' for anything.

That's the spirit, as the Phoenix rises again.
