16 vehicles seized in Tower Hamlets as part of Operation Cubo

PUBLISHED: 18:23 19 December 2012

Drivers who don’t keep to the law were targeted this Christmas, as 16 vehicles were seized in Tower Hamlets during a police operation on Tuesday.

Working in partnership with Tower Hamlets council, 50 of the borough’s police officers were deployed in various locations in a bid to clamp down on uninsured drivers, drink-driving and failing to observe driving bans.

Five people were arrested and 16 vehicles were seized in Tower Hamlets as part of Operation Cubo, which saw police across the London boroughs target illegal drivers.

Ch Supt Dave Stringer hailed the Operation’s “outstanding” results, adding: “These operations are about disrupting the offenders that use their vehicles to commit crime in Tower Hamlets borough and beyond, and transport weapons, drugs and stolen property.

“We will continue to pursue them relentlessly into 2013, with the additional support of a dedicated new investigation team and enhanced technology.”

Police stopped vehicles at random in locations including Mile End Road, the Rotherhithe Tunnel and Globe Road.
