Luther Edwards, 32, was ambushed and stabbed in Old Ford Road and Cambridge Heath Road, before he staggered into a BP garage nearby in July 2016.

He died an hour later.

Today at the Old Bailey, Marlon Thomas, 28, who is the ex-boyfriend of Luther’s partner Emine Ibrahim, and Jerome Osbourne, 33, were convicted of his manslaughter.

Both were acquitted of murder following a six-week trial.

Two other men Kurtis Thomas and Christopher O’Sullivan who were also in the dock were found not guilty of murder and manslaughter.

The court heard Luther was killed outside a boxing match in York Hall after being attacked by a group of men outside the venue.

Thomas He was then involved in a brawl involving more than ten people, captured on CCTV, which spilled out into Old Ford Road and across towards a BP garage on Cambridge Heath Road.

Luther collapsed on the forecourt and died an hour later after having been stabbed during the fight.

Earlier in the evening Luther was seen arguing with the men inside the venue and they had to be separated.

Elijah Johnson, Luther’s friend of 10 years, who was also at the boxing match, told the court that he had whispered “don’t let them rush me” to him before he left the venue.

Elijah then had to get involved in the fracas outside the venue in an unsuccessful attempt to protect his friend.

“I have never seen so much blood in such a short amount of time,” he told the court.

He also described Mr Edwards’ “dead man walk” over to the garage where he eventually died from the stab injury.

Thomas and Osbourne will be sentenced on June 29.

Case officer DS Brett Hagen stated: “This investigation was a lengthy and challenging one, but ultimately justice has prevailed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team for their painstaking work in reviewing thousands of hours of CCTV footage, which led to the arrest, charge and conviction of the individuals who carried out this savage attack.

“Luther’s family, several of whom were present on the night, have displayed incredible courage and patience throughout the last two years and I hope they can take some solace in the convictions today.”.
