Two men have been jailed for drug offences as part of Operation Continuimin where police target dealers in the borough.
Billy Flynn, of Ellesmere Street, Poplar, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis after officers found him in possession with half a kilo of the class B drug.
Officers discovered the drugs on the 25-year-old after they stopped and searched him outside an address near Chrisp Street Market last November.
He was jailed for two years and four months.
PC Poonam Banger said: “Police conducted an extensive investigation which lead to an uncovering of the Flynn’s established dealing operation resulting in a significant custodial sentence.”
Ogulcan Imrek, 23, from Tottenham, was arrested after he was found inside a car in Bethnal Green with a city worker who had bought cocaine from him.
Imrek was also found with a knife and a taser was seized during a search of his home.
He admitted supplying cocaine, possession of a knife and possession of a firearm and was jailed for three years and five months.
PC Jon Privett, said: “this was a case of a drug dealer being caught in the act, whilst keeping a weapon to protect himself.
“It highlights the intrinsic link between drug supply and knife crime, and how close those who buy drugs are to the weapons used.”
Both men were jailed at Snaresbrook Crown Court last week.
