The 31-year-old was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder late last Friday night.

Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses and information following the July 29 fatal stabbing in Bethnal Green.

Police were called at 10.30pm and found a man, also 31, with stab wounds collapsed on the forecourt of the BP petrol station in Cambridge Heath Road, opposite York Hall and just 500 yards from Bethnal Green police station.

Paramedics tried to save him, but he died an hour later at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, less than a mile away.

A post-mortem at Poplar Mortuary on Monday gave cause of death as a stab wound to heart.

The dead man had been at a boxing event at York Hall that evening, but had got involved in a fight as he was leaving which police said started inside the venue and spilled out onto the streets.
