A man has been jailed over a row with his neighbour in Limehouse about a smoke alarm going off.

The alarm had activated in Omar Jaiteh’s flat and his neighbour called the fire brigade.

But he became agitated after firefighters had left the block in Norbiton Road, off Salmon Lane, and confronted the neighbour with the knife, blaming him for calling the emergency services.

Jaiteh threatened to stab him and began lunging towards him, but the neighbour managed to get back into his flat and call police, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

He was caught on camera wielding the knife and was later arrested at his home, where police found the weapon.

“What started as a trivial incident ended with Jaiteh threatening with a knife,” De Sgt Tomasz Patzer said after yesterday’s sentencing. “Why Jaiteh chose to act like that is unclear—but what is clear is carrying a knife and threatening others is not acceptable.”

Jaiteh, 34, was sentenced to two years after being found guilty at his trial in April of threatening with a knife in a public place and with threatening behaviour.
