The 15-year-old was stabbed on the forecourt of the 20-storey Gayton House tower block in Knapp Road at around 8pm.

The boy is currently in hospital at the Royal London in a stable condition, but may have “life changing injuries”. His family are with him.

“There is nothing to suggest this incident is gang related,” a Met Police insider told the East London Advertiser.

“A full CCTV trawl is being carried out and we’re speaking to residents. Several leads are being followed up.”

The tower block, opposite Clara Grant Primary school, has 100 flats with many windows and balconies looking out onto the forecourt.

Detectives from Tower Hamlets CID have been making door-to-door inquiries, while a specialist team has been searching the neighbourhood for evidence.

The crime scene was cordoned off until this-morning.
