A murder investigation has been launched after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death last night.

Two 16-year-old boys were found injured when police were called to Spey Street in Langdon Park at around 9.50pm.

Both boys were taken to hospital, and one later died from his wounds.

The second victim suffered a facial injury which police said is not life-threatening.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday morning. He remains in custody at an east London police station.

Det Ch Insp Colette Smyth, of the Metropolitan Police, said: “We believe there were a number of people in the area at the time and we would appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward.

“We are keeping an open mind about any possible motive at this stage.”

Next of kin have been informed, but the victim has not yet been formally identified. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 020 8358 0100 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
