The 41-year-old was attacked in Eagling Close just before 4.30pm on Saturday and died at the scene an hour later.

A post mortem concluded Mr Roper died from gunshot wounds.

Paying tribute to him, Mr Roper’s family said: “Brenton was a loving and loyal son, dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

“He was a well respected man and had respect for others; we are all devastated that he was taken from us in such a horrific way.”

Officers are keen to speak with any passengers who were travelling westbound between Bromley-by-Bow and Bow Road on the Hammersmith and City or District Lines between 4.25pm and 4.30pm on the day Mr Roper was shot.

The route passes the murder scene so a passenger may have seen something which could be a vital piece of information.

Detective Superintendent Stuart Wratten said: “We are continuing to appeal for anyone with information regarding Mr Roper’s death to come forward and speak with officers.

“This attack happened on a Saturday afternoon and I am certain that it would have been witnessed by a number of people.

“It is possible that someone who was travelling on the tube saw the beginning or aftermath of Mr Roper’s murder but have not realised how serious the incident was. I would urge them to call the incident room.”

“He was a well respected man and had respect for others; we are all devastated that he was taken from us in such a horrific way.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information should call the incident room on 020 8217 6582 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A boy of 16 and an 18-year-old man were arrested in connection with his murder and have been bailed to return to a police station at a later date.
