Cordons are in place at a murder scene in Greatorex Street, Whitechapel, this morning after a man was stabbed to death last night.

Police were called at around 6.40pm last night where they found a man in his 40s suffering with knife wounds to his upper body.

He died at the scene a short while later.

Next-of-kin have now been informed but formal identification awaits.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was taken to hospital with a hand injury and will later be taken to a police station for questioning.

Police found a knife near the scene and officers believe the victim and suspect knew each other.
