He has written more than 100 books and picked up a range of awards for his work.

His latest novel Far Cry is about every parent's worst nightmare - the disappearance of a child.

The free event at Whitechapel Road is the latest in Tower Hamlets first literature festival.

At last night's event former Waterstones boss Tim Coates enthralled readers with his tale of newspaper editor John Delane's exposure of the abysmal conditions endured by troops during the Crimea War 150 years ago.
