The borough’s police commander has laid a wreath in memory of a detective who was stabbed to death 26 years ago today.
DC Jim Morrison, who started his career at Bow Road Police Station, died after he tried to tackle a suspected bag snatcher while he was off-duty in Covent Garden on December 13, 1991.
Despite extensive inquiries and a number of arrests over the years his murderer has never been found and there is a £30,000 reward on offer to find him.
Today Borough Cmdr Sue Williams laid the wreath at the spot where the married 26-year-old died.
Sergeant Colin Geddes became close friends with Jim after they met while working at Bow Road station.
He said: “His death has left a tremendous gap in the lives of those who knew and worked with him. He is hugely missed.”
