Police have seized a cache of knives in the latest weapons sweep of a public park in London’s East End.
The weapons included a sword, lock knife and a large kitchen knife.
They were found during an operation by officers from the Met’s Tower Hamlets division Gangs Unit in a Bromley-by-Bow neighbourhood park off Rounton Road, backing onto Campbell Road.
“This sweep has been a success,” Det Insp Andy Gravestock from the Gangs Unit said. “Potential weapons have been taken off our streets and will no doubt come as a blow to whoever was planning to use it.”
The sweep at 1pm on Tuesday was the latest in a series of sweeps in the area, which included a haul of weapons found in a children’s playground earlier this year.
Gangs members who don’t want them found in their homes hide them elsewhere, detectives believe, to return for them when needed.
This latest haul has been sent to the Met’s crime labs for forensic examination.
