An 18-year-old mother appeared in court today charged in connection with the death of her four-month-old daughter.
Iman Hamza Dean Wyse, of Bow, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court accused of causing or allowing the death of a child and wilful neglect of two other children, aged three and 18 months, between March 13 and October 4.
The charges follow a call to police from the London Ambulance Service at around 5.30pm on Friday.
The baby girl, Amani Abdi, had been taken to hospital from the defendant’s home in Ackroyd Drive, and was pronounced dead at the hospital at around 5.45pm.
Officers from the Met’s homicide and major crimes unit then launched an investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Wyse was arrested on Saturday and charged the following day in connection with the incident. She is now due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, October 17.
District Judge Jane McIvor denied bail at Monday’s hearing, during which Wyse spoke only to confirm her name, address and date of birth.
Police said a post-mortem would be scheduled in due course.
A Tower Hamlets Council spokesman said: “The council is aware of the tragic events that occurred over the course of the weekend and are working closely with the police who are investigating this matter. We are unable to make any further comment at this time.”
