A man has been jailed after threatening to kill police with a knife during a standoff in the presence of his two month old baby in his home.

Benn Quatromini, 25, was charged with a variety of offences, including common assault and threats to kill. He was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, September 7, to three years and four months in prison.

Police attended the scene in Salmon Lane, Limehouse, on the afternoon of December 22, after being contacted by a concerned social worker.

Quatromini had been engaged in a heated argument with his girlfriend, which resulted in him pushing her. When he was approached by police, he ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and threatened to kill police if they did not leave his flat.

When police complied and tried to negotiate with him, Quatromini shouted through the letter box that his baby was on the other side of the door and that they would harm the infant if they broke the door down.

After several hours of negotiations, police were able to arrest the man, with the baby taken to safety.
