Dozens of Bangladeshi activists held a protest in Whitechapel to welcome the conviction of a former vice chairman of the East London Mosque for war crimes by a Bangladeshi court.
The protesters met in Altab Ali Park on November 4 to support the guilty verdict handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal that morning and to call for him to be brought to justice.
Chowdhury Mueen Uddin, who lives in London, was sentenced to death for the killing and kidnapping of teachers and intellectuals during Bangladesh’s liberation war in 1971.
The group, which included men and women, young and old, held signs saying “Imprison Mueen Uddin now” and “We demand an inquiry into Mueen Uddin’s role in British public life”.
