The director of a campaign group charged with failing to disclose his mobile phone password after he was detained at Heathrow Airport is to face trial later this year.
Muhammad Rabbani, who lives in Bethnal Green and runs Cage – which describes itself as an “independent advocacy organisation working to empower communities impacted by the War on Terror” – appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He confirmed his name, address and date of birth before pleading not guilty to a single charge of obstructing or frustrating an examination under counter-terrorism stop-and-search powers.
His solicitor, Gareth Peirce, said the issues in the case would include “the legality of the stop, the legality of the examination and the legality of the request for Mr Rabbani that he provide the PIN number for his phone”.
Rabbani faces a one-day trial at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 25.
