A man from Bethnal Green has been jailed for 16 months for burglary at a jewellers in Bow during the London riots.
Mohammed Rahman, aged 25, of Smart Street, was sentenced last Monday at Wood Green Crown Court after pleading guilty.
Police received a call to suspects looting Gold ‘n’ Image jewellers in Roman Road on August 8.
CCTV monitored the incident and as officers arrived at the rear of the premises they saw Rahman running away from the venue. He was stopped and searched, and found to be in possession of a large quantity of different items of jewellery valued at �450.00.
DC Phillipa Kenwright, from the Serious Acquisitive Crime Unit, said: “The public has been extremely supportive and we continue to investigate the disorder and criminality that occurred on August 8, Tower Hamlets police are committed to prosecuting those involved.”
