An attempted break-in at the home of two Tower Hamlets councillors is being investigated by Met police.

Officers were called to the flat of councillors Aminur and Rabina Khan, in Lindley Street, Whitechapel, at 2.20am on Sunday with reports of bricks being used to break in through the front door.

Police said the suspect entered the hallway when the door opened but ran away when confronted by one of the councillors.

A spokesman said: “Tower Hamlets Police are investigating the incident as an attempted burglary, but retain an open mind as to motive at this time.”

There have been no arrests.
