A man has been banned from going near Islamic buildings in east London after posting racist messages on Twitter.
David Camp, from Cambridge, posted anti-Islamic messages on the social networking site between April and June.
He was made subject of an anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) at a hearing at Cambridge Magistrate’s Court after admitting to posting the Islamophobic messages.
He also admitted to three public order offences after threatening to burn down a mosque during a drunken outburst in Cambridge. Camp was handed a 12 month supervision order and banned from entering parts of Whitechapel Road due to its proximity to Islamic centres such as the East London Mosque, as well as certain areas of his home town.
Sgt Matt Gadsby, of Cambridgeshire police, said: “This Asbo is fundamentally about promoting public safety and protecting the rights of the community, and will hopefully provide reassurance that we will not tolerate either racism or anti-social behaviour in any form.”
