DETECTIVES investigating a violent East End assault which left the victim in hospital with serious head injuries are appealing for information and witnesses.

CCTV images of two men officers wish to speak to in connection with the incident are also being released in the hope anyone who recognises them will come forward.

Cops found a 49-year-old man with serious head injuries when they were called to Hessel Street, off Commercial Road in Whitechapel around 7pm on Friday, August 13.

He was taken to Royal London Hospital where he required a number of stitches, as well as treatment for cuts to his face. He was later discharged but still needs extensive and ongoing treatment and will continue to do so over the coming months.

Police say the victim was with a friend who got involved in an argument with two men over a traffic dispute. He intervened in the argument but the two unexpectedly set upon him, kicking and punching him to his head and body, causing him to fall over and hit his head.

Following the attack the pair fled along Hessel Street towards Cannon Street Road where they got into a silver Golf.

The first suspect is described as Asian, aged 25-30, of medium build, with short black hair and facial hair. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt with a logo in the centre and light blue jeans.

The second was of similar appearance although taller than then first. He was wearing a black top over a white t-shirt and dark trousers.

Det Con Inderjit Sahota of Tower Hamlets CID said: “This was an unprovoked and violent attack on a man who was simply trying to resolve a verbal disagreement.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed any part of the incident or recognises these two individuals to contact police as a matter of urgency.”

Cops are appealing for anyone with information to contact

Anyone with information is asked to call Det Con Sahota on 020 7275 4755 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
