A senior officer in the City of London police has been arrested today (Thurs) on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
It concerns Operation Elsden investigations focusing on 20 million emails alleged to have been sent from News International’s former Wapping HQ to the Met Police, the Independent Police Complaints Commission has confirmed.
The serving officer is a superintendent, who was arrested by the IPCC resulting from information passed to them by Scotland Yard looking into alleged passing of unauthorised information to a journalist.
The officer is currently in custody at a London police station. IPCC investigators have the powers of a police constable, which include arrest.
