DUMPED rubbish was cleared and graffiti was removed at the weekend after neighbours on a Whitechapel estate said a clean up was their top priority.
Council workers tackled the estate cleaning at Lister House, Treves House and Hughes Mansion in Vallance Road while police officers were on hand to try and reduce drug dealing between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.
Staff used high-pressure water jets to remove graffiti and clean brickwork and pavements while neighbours were encouraged to report incidents of antisocial behaviour and the Fire Brigade gave away free smoke alarms.
The day was funded by the council's You Decide programme, which gives residents the chance to influence how council cash is spent on extra services.
