John Lewis takes over building at Westfield Stratford City

THE John Lewis Partnership has taken over building its new east London department store from developer Westfield.

John Lewis is investing �35million in its Stratford shop, which will employ up to 750 people when it opens next year, and is a major anchor tenant of Westfield Stratford City which is set to be Europe’s biggest shopping centre.

Samantha Rowntree, Retail Development Manager, John Lewis, said: “The handover is a hugely significant milestone for John Lewis Stratford as we look forward to opening next year.

“Our ambition is for John Lewis Stratford to become the cornerstone of wider regeneration in Stratford and the London Borough of Newham and deliver a long term sustainable legacy.

“We are looking forward to becoming part of the local community and this new space will allow us to bring our exceptional customer service, inspiring products and great value to retailing and set the gold standard here in Stratford.”
