A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of 42-year-old Gary Briscoe at a hostel for the homeless in London’s East End.
Gary was found dead in Spitalfields on June 22 at Daniel Gilbert House off Brick Lane.
Mehretab Zemicael, 42, an Eritrean national living in Code Street where the hostel is situated, was charged last Thursday with murder and appeared before Thames Magistrates who remanded him to the Old Bailey where he made a brief appearance yesterday.
Ambulance paramedics answering a 999 call on June 22 arrived at the hostel run by the Providence Row charity for the homeless in Code Street and tried to revive Mr Briscow—but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination the next day gave cause of death as multiple wounds. An inquest has been formally opened at Poplar Coroner’s Court.
